Tamara Robinson, co-founder and president

As co-founder and president of La Promesa Honduras, Tamara brings in-depth knowledge in the areas of foster care, adoption, depression, anxiety, mood disorders, relationship issues, trauma, PTSD, and life transitions. In addition, she’s trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) and is both a Trust Based Relational Intervention Practitioner and Trauma Competent Caregiver Affiliate Trainer.

A licensed social worker from the state of Georgia with 20-years’ experience working in the fields of child welfare and mental health, Tamara earned her Bachelor and Master of Social Work degrees from the University of Georgia and has been trained by leading experts in the fields of trauma, child development, attachment and bonding. Tamara’s ministry first began in 2001 when God opened her eyes to the number of vulnerable children in her community who were without the nurturing love of a family. Since then, the Robinson family has welcomed 11 children to their family through adoption and served more than 30 children in foster care - both in Georgia and Honduras.

Tamara’s experiences in foster care and adoption ministry transformed her family’s way of life and eventually led them to international ministry in Honduras, where God has given them the honor and privilege of being a voice for children and families in need. Tamara has devoted her heart and life to sharing the hope of Christ among the most vulnerable in her community of Tegucigalpa and across the country of Honduras.

Christy Owen, co-founder and vice president

As co-founder and vice president of LPH, Christy’s service in Honduras first began in 1999 when the deaf community captured her heart and God redirected her path into international ministry. Since then, Christy’s had the privilege of working closely with the deaf community of Honduras, co-founding a Christian school for deaf children, and helping to establish and strengthen a deaf-led church.

A graduate of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, where she earned her Master of Education degree in Rehabilitation Counseling with an emphasis in deafness, Christy has been trained by leading experts in her field and presently serves on a team with a core group of deaf Honduran leaders tasked with translating the Word of God into Honduran sign language. In addition to Christy's love and passion for the deaf community, she has a profound calling to use her unique talents and abilities in ways that help those who are most vulnerable and at-risk.

In 2018, Christy teamed up with Tamara Robinson to establish La Promesa Honduras, where, leveraging her 25-years’ experience training leaders and developing programs, she weaves structure and community into ministry programs. Through LPH, Christy continues to work within the deaf and disability communities and has enjoyed expanding her ministry into the area of foster care, which she was first introduced to in 2000 when her daughter, Lili, joined the family at the age of 11.  Soon after, Christy welcomed into her family more children in foster care and others needing a place to call home. Lili is now an adult Honduran woman with high special needs requiring 24-hour care. She brings a smile to everyone she meets and ministers in seen and unseen ways. Christy and Lili just recently welcomed a new addition to their home, a one-year old baby girl who has been placed with them in long-term foster care.
